πŸ‘— My 3 Favourite Designers πŸ‘

As a part of a feature with Cosmopolitan magazine – the Cosmo Scholarship edit in their February 2019 issue, I thought that I would get involved in the fashion section by answering this extremely hard question – Who are your 3 favourite designers? And I thought that to be creative, I would also throw in why. So without any further hesitation, here are my personal three favourite fashion designers ever, counting down to my number one – and why I love them so much!

3. Karl Lagerfeld
(German fashion director & designer)

So at number three is German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, aged 85 and born September 10th. Karl originates from Hamburg however now resides in Paris, France. In 1983, Karl followed the footsteps of Coco Chanel when he became creative director of the luxury brand Chanel – a classy, vintage brand that I absolutely love. He also became the first designer to collaborate with fashion store H&M which is my go to clothing store when it comes to wanting the latest fashion trends at affordable prices. But, most of all, Karl Lagerfeld actually has his own brand named after himself, which I think is such a unique and elegant take on fashion – from shoes, to bags, to glasses, his brand really has that boujee look.
I actually own my very own, top of the range pair of Karl Lagerfeld glasses! I got them from my local Specsavers (four eyes and proud over here!), and they are really, really sophisticated and classy; and even though they’re ‘only glasses’, they are 100% my favourite pair, because they are so chic and really add to my outfits. Who knew that being short-sighted would make me look so fashionable. The pair I had before were quite clunky and really didn’t suit my face shape! But these Karl Lagerfeld glasses are so flattering and dainty, and they compliment my facial structure so well. They are thin but sturdy with a clear brown frame and rounded square shape; they make me look smart so I’m all for it.
2. Rihanna
(Creative fashion director & musician)

Okay, so everybody knows Rihanna, whether it’s for her old classics like ‘Rude Boy‘ and ‘Love The Way You Lie‘, or her more modern and raunchy songs like ‘Work‘ and ‘Wild Thoughts‘. But, what a lot of people don’t tend to realise is that Rihanna is actually an iconic fashion figure, and a very talented one to say the least. I’m not personally a die-hard fan of Rihanna’s music, but I absolutely adore and admire her work in the fashion industry as a creative fashion director and designer.
Rihanna became creative fashion director of Puma in 2014, where she now oversees the women’s fashion line selling shoes and clothing. Over the next few months, she released her own line of shoes which sold out within days. Only two years later in 2016, Rihanna officially released her first clothing line collaboration with Puma, which she debuted at the New York Fashion week. Since then, she has released many, many more Fenty x Puma collaborations which are all high-end and extremely well sought after – she was even named as one of the best dressed women of 2018 according to Net-a-Porter!

1. Roy Haylock (Bianca Del Rio)
(Costume designer & drapers assistant)

At number one, is my favourite person EVER. Period. This is none other than the extremely talented and successful Drag artist, Bianca Del Rio (Roy Haylock). Roy Haylock began designing costumes in his teen years, even going on to win a ‘Big Easy Entertainment Award’ for the Best Costume Design for the Snow Queen at the extremely young and impressive age of 17!

In 1996, Roy began his debut as a Drag artist in a local play called Pageant. From this, then became his Drag Queen alter-ego, Bianca Del Rio. Originally from New Orleans, Haylock moved to New York after Hurricane Katrina hit his hometown, a
nd there he continued to work as a costume designer for high-end Broadway shows.

To this very day, Bianca Del Rio is one of the most famous and well-known Drag queens, after winning season 6 of Rupaul’s Drag Race. In this season she was known for her amazing looks all handmade by herself, and also for her generosity and helpfulness towards the other contestants when helping construct their costumes. But above all, she is mostly known as being the most shady and hateful b*tch to walk the earth, and we love her for it.

So there it is – my top three favourite fashion designers of all time; all amazingly talented in their own special and unique ways! These icons will always have an impact on my wardrobe no matter how little. Who are your top 3 fashion designers? Let me know.
