There are many fashion trends in the industry that are always constantly changing year by year, and each trend is becoming more modern, and more unique. There are always extreme high-end catwalk fashion trends that are slowly merging into the fashion market, and it’s so exciting to see what this year has in store for us fashion-wise. In the Cosmopolitan February addition, part of the Cosmo Scholarship, a challenge was set to find the next upcoming trends that we should be raving about. So, I have done a little bit of research, and found two of the most exciting trends S/2019 has in store for us!
From vintage wedding dresses to old-fashioned frocks, puffed sleeves are quite an old fashion trend that came to stay… and then disappeared. Some may argue that it’s a trend that belongs in the past, however I am actually quite looking forward to seeing this bold-shouldered statement return to our wardrobes. This high-end statement may be reworked into our high street and online fashion stores very soon, especially as we slowly begin to come into S/19.
I especially think we may start to see this sleeve on dresses, jumper dresses, and smart shirt attire. Nothing says classy, feminine and bold like a daring puffed sleeve piece. This look could be paired with some nice skinny jeans if styled on a long knitted jumper such as the picture on the below left, or with some ankle-length bold statement boots if styled on an occasion-wear dress like the below right. Either way, this look could be presented either casually or as formal-wear, and I’m all for it.
This year we are going in big and bold, and these puffy sleeves aren’t going anywhere any time soon. Surprisingly, these puffy sleeves are going to be one of the biggest fashion statements this year, and I think they’re going to get bigger, bolder and broader. The bigger, the better. Whenever a trend comes into season, it’s always a battle between the brands over who can do it better – so I honestly believe that we are gonna start to see some big-ass sleeves over the next couple of months.
Originally starting in S/18, the puff sleeve trend sort-of kicked off, but then died back down again. So this season is the season when they are making a big return, and this time they’re here to stay, and here to slay. Watch out for this trend that is slowly but surely working its way back into this season.
Cargo pants are something that have slowly crept into our online shopping baskets over the far end of Christmas, and S/19 is the season when they are really going to take off. These daring, sassy and casual looking trouser are a huge fashion statement that make a classy woman turn into a bad b*tch. Cargo pants can either be styled with oversized, baggy jumpers and sweatshirts with a pair of black stiletto boots for that ‘IDGAF’ attitude, or with a smart, pastel cropped collar shirt and some classy, clear heels for that ‘Part-time business woman’ attire.
This bad-ass style of trouser have been styled between celebrities over the past month or so, such as fashion icons Kylie Jenner, Ariana Grande, and of course Gigi Hadid, as seen below right. These celebrities’ have top of the range stylists who are quick to jump on any trends that are set to take off in the coming year, so they are way ahead of us!
Some online fashion retailers have already taken a liking to this trend and began stocking them, such as PLT, Missguided and Nasty Gal. A personal fave of mine is PLT, and I’m going to be sure to get my hands on a pair of cargo pants from there before they all sell out! There are so many different styles of these bottoms as well, from camo print and navy, to zebra pattern and neon. You can even get yourself a pair of glow in the dark cargo pants, so watch this space.
You can get yourself a pair of rave influenced, glow in the dark Cargo pants from Public Desire, and also from many online independent retail stores – many of these can be found on the selling app Depop. Not only are these trousers trendy, but they’re also super comfy, so be sure to treat yourself to a pair of these statement pants!
There are my top two fashion trends that I’m looking forward to this S/19! Are there any trends that you can’t wait to join in on? Let me know in the comments!
